LA Lloyd Rock 30 Countdown Celebrates 26 Years of Rock Radio
September 15, 2026

For more than a quarter-century, the LA Lloyd Rock 30 Countdown has brought rock fans closer to the songs, stories and artists shaping the format. In 2026, the nationally syndicated program celebrates 26 years on the air—a milestone built on Lloyd’s lifelong connection to radio and rock music.
A Countdown Built Around the Artists
LA Lloyd launched the Rock 30 on July 4, 2000. The weekly three-hour program counts down 30 of rock radio’s biggest songs, but the music chart is only part of its identity. Artist conversations are woven throughout each episode, allowing musicians to talk about their work, their lives and the stories behind the records.
That artist-first approach has welcomed an extraordinary list of guests over the years. Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, Shinedown, Disturbed, Papa Roach, Breaking Benjamin and Halestorm are among the major rock names that have appeared on the countdown.
From the Carolinas to Texas—and Across the Airwaves
Lloyd’s radio career has taken him from the Carolinas to California and eventually Texas, where he became a familiar voice in Austin and San Antonio. His career includes programming and on-air work at influential rock stations including 99.5 KISS in San Antonio and 93.7 KLBJ-FM in Austin.
The Rock 30’s reach has extended far beyond one studio. Affiliate stations have carried the program across the continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii, while listeners outside the country have heard it in Canada, Mexico and St. Maarten. That reach reflects the enduring appeal of a show made by a rock fan for rock fans.
A Hall of Fame Year
The countdown’s 26th anniversary arrives during another important year for Lloyd. In 2026, he was inducted into the San Antonio Radio Hall of Fame, recognizing a career devoted to broadcasting, rock music and the audience that has followed him across the years.
Radio has changed dramatically since the Rock 30 debuted. Listening now extends across traditional stations, online streams, mobile devices and on-demand audio. Through every shift, the program has kept its central promise: count down the songs fans want to hear and give the artists room to tell their own stories.
Still Turning Rock Up Every Weekend
Twenty-six years after its first broadcast, the LA Lloyd Rock 30 Countdown continues every weekend with current rock, established favorites and conversations with the people behind the music. It is more than a chart show. It is a weekly meeting place for the rock community—and after 26 years, the volume is still up.
